This immense cast-iron and bronze machine, powered by steam, is the ultimate testimony in its category to the great French and European industrial era of the 19th century. Arriving in Fumel in 1850 on heavily-laden barges up the river Lot, and then assembled on site, the Machine de Watt was from the outset intended to supply hot air to the blast furnaces of the newly-created metallurgical plant. In operation until the 1950s, today the Machine de Watt is the only one in France still in working order (electric power). Its mechanism, historical interest and aesthetic appeal led to its classification as a Historic Monument in 2009. Visit unique in France. Limited number of participants.
